The rear main oil seal can be a common location for oil leaks on a variety of the VAG 1.8 & 2.0 litre EA888 series of engines, Gen 1, 2, 3 & 4 TSI. Frustratingly, the rear main seal is tucked away on the right hand side of the engine, where the gearbox and engine join together. The only way to get to the rear main oil seal? remove the gearbox from the car!

For that reason, we always recommend if you have the gearbox removed for any internal repairs or a clutch & flywheel replacement, DSG or manual gearbox fitted, that it is well worth considering changing the engine rear main oil seal at the same time whilst you have gained access to it. Even if there is no leak present, it is a good piece of preventative maintenance to sort out before it may become a problem down the line and you find yourself repeating the labour to remove and reinstall the gearbox...

Please Note 

The Elring seal comes pre-pressed into the housing. We carry out this step here to avoid the seal getting damaged from not using the correct tools or equipment, and generally save you the pain of splitting the seal with a vehicle waiting on the ramp!

Silicone sealant is required to fit this product. We do NOT include this and you will need to purchase seperately before installing!
