02M / 02Q Gearbox Input Shaft Shim Kit and End Cap

This kit is to eliminate in and out input shaft play on the 02M/02Q Gearboxes. This play can cause various issues such as crank walk and other issues. These parts can be installed in situ, without removing the gearbox, and is accessible via the front left wheel arch. For gearboxes without the plastic end cap the input shaft would need shimming from inside the gearbox.

This kit includes:

• 1 x 1 x 79.35mm Genuine VW End Cap 
• 3 x 0.65mm Input Shaft Shims

Please note these will not fit models with the metal end casing, only suitable for models with the plastic end casing. Please See the picture above, circled in red is the metal end casing, circled in green is the plastic end casing.

Generally it is only up to 2007 gearboxes that suffer from input shaft play.  It is caused from the input shaft bearing spinning in the housing causing wear to the gearbox casing.  2007 onwards gearboxes came fitted with a shim on both sides of the casing which stopped any wear.  2009 onwards gearboxes came with a fully revised bearing that wasn't then able to spin in the casing.
